“YOU’VE GOT FIVE MINUTES TO BLOW MY SKIRT UP, AND ROCK MY WORLD!” JILL SAID TO KATIE, POINTING TO THE CHAIR ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF HER DESK WITH HER PEN.
Katie finished writing shortly after Jill finished speaking and looked up, “No ma’am,” then she hesitated. “Well one. When will I know who will be working with me? You know, if I have any questions? Who do I report to? Or do I ask you directly?”
Jill stood up from behind her desk prompting Katie to do her best to get off the ottoman. “You’ll be reporting to me. I will be your ‘go-to person’ should you need to discuss anything – if you have any concerns about any part of the process, people, issues, etc.,” Jill pointed out as Katie was gathering her papers off Jill’s desk.
Jill walked around the desk and toward her office door. Katie followed. “Here’s your pen,” Katie said, giving the pen to Jill before leaving her office. “And thank you for the extended five minutes of your time, and this fantastic opportunity!”
“Before you leave, tell me why you decided to share this idea with me?” Jill asked, inquisitively.
“Because you stayed in for lunch today, and I finally got the nerve up to pitch it to someone seventeen minutes ago."
“Kismet,” Jill replied with a confident smile. "I like that.”
