A VIGNETTE FROM 'ALEX' IN THE LIES WE LIVE
Alex leaned back in the chair and began, “FaceBook; we all love it and we all hate it…”
“And sometimes we spend too much time on it,” Steph interjected, raising her hand for the count.
“Exactly. So, one night, a handful of months ago, I was screwing around on FaceBook because I had nothing better to do, and you know that sidebar where it reads, People You May Know or something like that, and it shows you names and pictures of people you might want to send a friend request to?”
“Yeah,” Steph answered.
“Well, a guy’s picture came up on my screen that looked nearly identical to me. His eyebrows weren’t as bushy, and his nose looked like it had been broken a couple of times, but for the most part, I was looking at a mirror image of myself,” Alex divulged, quickly. “To begin with, I thought I was looking at one of my pictures and couldn’t understand why another guy’s name was attached to the shot.”
“I would imagine you clicked on his name, right?”
“Yeah, I did, because I wanted to know why in the hell he was using my picture? Altering and using my picture.”
“What’d you find out?”
“Wasn’t my picture – it was his,” Alex nodded. “All of his pictures that look just like me in photos that have him hanging out with other people I don’t know.”
“Long lost cousin?” Steph offered up.
“No, more like a long-lost brother.”
